New solo album project in the works, check back for more info on that over the next month or two.
Couple of solo shows in Paris this month, one at the Alimentation Générale on November 7th, the other at Lou Pascalou on November 24th (the latter with backing band). Details on dates page. I’m also psyched to be playing a few shows with Cajun artist Sarah Savoy and band this month.
Lastly I’ll be organizing an off-kilter blues festival at l’Alimentation Générale in February 2013 so stay tuned for that…

After a great Groanbox duo tour in the UK in late August, I’ll be heading back to England to tour with the Seznec Bros in mid-September. Joining us for a few of the shows will be Senegalese percussionist Amadou Diagne, and you might even catch a glimpse of Groanbox percussionist and new papa Paul Clifford on one or two of the dates. Also, I’ll be on tour again in Italy with Adam McBride-Smith in October.
Keep an eye out for some occasional shows in Paris, including a possible mini-festival I’m organizing at the Alimentation Générale in November.

My brother Yann and I are releasing our new album Jagged Land sometime over the next two weeks. It features eight originals and three traditional numbers, and a host of awesome musician friends of ours on different tracks: Thomas Bailey on fiddle, Stephen Harrison on upright bass, Pedro Kouyaté on kamelngoni, Renaud Ollivier on percussion, and Peter Vilk on drums (and even a little bit of percussion from fellow Groanboxer Paul Clifford on one track!).
It’ll be up on iTunes, cdbaby, and other media soon. Stay tuned…

2011 marks a fruitful year for me on the recording front – my bro and I are in the midst of finalizing an album that we are hoping to release in the next couple of months.
On a whim, Pedro Kouyaté, Renaud Ollivier and I went into a studio in March and recorded four Malian inspired tunes with kamelngoni and banjo, two guitars, and calabash.

Finally, my trio, Groanbox, is going to be recording our fifth album in August in a cottage in Scotland.

A few theater performances lined up for this weekend. I am doing the sound design for Fabrice Macaux’s play “Rapaces”, which features actress Laurence Mayor and circus artist Mikaël Vessereau. As there are very few words in the play, my role is to provide the sonic response to what takes place on stage. My little world of strings is thus fully exploited – from spooky feedback from resonator guitar, to gourd banjo, to ngoni, to delayed charango, to distorted open-backed banjo, to fingerstyle guitar…all pumped through my little Vox DA5 amp!
At some point I’m going to try and get a decent recording of the whole thing. In the meantime, here are a couple of samples from “charango theme”…
